

Stages that focused on speed, dexterity, and shortcuts only the best Sonic players could use.The spring season will likely pass as another dry spell for Sonic fans looking for a new classic gameplay fix, as SEGA delayed Sonic Mania to the summer. His stages were amazing recreations of past Modern Sonic levels that captured the same nostalgic perspective of the originals while morphing them into something new. The classic stages were faithful recreations of the past levels and gameplay found during the SEGA Genesis era while Modern Sonic was given the same level of care. Widely considered one of the best Sonic games ever created Sonic Generations combines the best of both worlds, modern and classic Sonic. The bright graphics, soundtrack, and challenge made it one of the best games on the Wii and the Sonic franchise. Building on Sonic Unleashed players could now harness the powers of Wisps without having to slow down. The Wii, while successful, didn't have a lot of stand out titles but Sonic Colors was one of these must-have games for Nintendo's console. White Jungle and Green Forest and Final Rush and Final Chase were some examples of high-speed stages with tons of shortcuts to take advantage of. Best of all was the Sonic and Shadow stages that provided alternate versions of their stages along with original levels. We still got the same treasure hunting and shooting focused levels from the perspective from both the good and bad guys. Sonic Adventure 2 built on many of the aspects of the original game with an amazing flare. It was hit and miss for the next 2 decades but Modern Sonic in Sonic Adventure was definitely one of the best ventures. Treasure hunting, shooting, and races were alright distractions but playing as Modern Sonic in stages such as Speed Highway and Sky Deck showcased the potential of Modern Sonic. Released back in 1999 alongside the SEGA Dreamcast Sonic Adventure provided players a fully realized 3D Sonic adventure and it was incredible. It was one of the best representations of Modern Sonic, showing the fanbase that 3D Modern Sonic could be just as entertaining as his classic counterpart.

Diverse locations with multiple paths that rewarded players to speed and proper timing. The werewolf transformation sections in Sonic Unleashed were the low points of the game but everything involving Modern Sonic was amazing. But what about Modern Sonic? Sonic Forces did disappoint a lot of fans but that doesn't mean the modern version of SEGA's mascot didn't have some incredible adventures for players to enjoy. Sonic Mania Plus gives players another reason to return to the retro world of Sonic the Hedgehog.
